William Branch Filson, former resident of Niceville of 52 years, passed away on March 9, 2020 in Fort Walton Beach. Bill was the 4th child of 8 born to James and Christine Filson on October 20, 1934 in Nashville, Tennessee.
It was always stressed by his mom that you can do anything you set your mind to, which bill pretty much did. He delivered groceries from Filson’s market on a bicycle as a young child. His passion for electronics sprouted when he joined the Air Force in 1952. He spent 60 years working in electronics with FAA, Raytheon, Parsons and 10 years working offshore with Shell Oil Company. He loved a challenge and tackled many related to his profession over the years. He also received many letters for a job well done. He loved his career and the many people he met. He also loved his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren- that loved was returned.
Even with very large hands, he could still repair the smallest objects. “Pop can fix it”, was a phrase that was said religiously. Bill spend many happy times at the camp on Redbug Lane, hunting and fishing with family.
Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty; son Ken (Cathy); daughter Kay; 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, 3 siblings and many comrades. At Bill’s request, there will be no services. Rest in peace Pop, WE LOVE YOU.
