Grandmother had a cardinal quilt on her the last few days of her life. I was by her side the entire time. She encouraged me to re kindle my relationship with God as if life depended on it. She passed away a few years back.
Last year, in June, as I was reading the word from start to finish, the mystery of our God was revealed to me while in Exodus reading about the tapestry designs used in ancient bible stories.
Interestingly, while the story made no real sense in the life I live today, a red cardinal walked by my back-porch with a piece of masking tape in its mouth.
It was like something in the heavens uniquely setup that little cardinal to get stuck on the piece of tape to play on the words "tapestry" in the Bible at that specific time I was reading it.
I've never seen a bird with a piece of tape stuck on his bill. It was like he found a seed on the ground near the piece of tape and it got stuck to his beak when he tried to eat it.
Next thing I see, this little red cardinal is hopping across my back porch with this masking tape on his beak. It was at the exact time while reading of the tapestry designs in exodus.
I googled "cardinal tapestry" after the bird walked by and this Christmas tree base design appeared with cardinals on it.

It was the strange, mysterious method of something greater than me, being tuned in to me while I was reading out-loud. Not only was it tuned in to me, it knew what I reading, and interpreted the presence of a superior being in the most assuring way.
In the next few chapters I read out-loud the famous part in exodus where the cloud surfaced to lead the children out of Israel.
At that exact time, When I read that out-loud, a huge shelf cloud was reported on the weather channel for its appearance in Destin, Florida.

It was like our God was narrating the words as I read them aloud in a mysterious, relevant way.
I had said one of those "reveal yourself to me prayers" and needless to say, it worked.
For many years, my belief in a father in heaven that hears prayers was very limited.
Many Many Years, I was on the same path as our friend Matt at times.
After that, I put the book on the shelf and asked God not to spook me out so much.
The point: he's real, and I choose to believe that he who hears me in the heavens is somehow, someway with our friend at this time. That's the mystery of God.

Matthet was a nice, fun, energetic kid growing up. Some of the best memories I have are of the three of us playing till way past dark on the Golf Course with flash lights. My prayers are with the Sutton family. May God heal your pain and fill your hearts with the happiness of his memory.
