Janet E Nice

January 31, 1962 ~ March 3, 2017 (age 55) 55 Years Old

Janet Eva Nice, age 55 of Niceville, FL passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on March 3, 2017 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. She passed unexpectedly while being treated for Leukemia.  Janet was born January 31, 1962 in Dover, Delaware to Frank and Michiko Nice. She was preceded in death by her father. Janet is survived by her mother, Michiko Nice of Mary Esther, FL; sister, Rose Mary MacIntyre and husband Richard of Sitka, Alaska; nephew Stephen and niece Jennifer.

After graduating from Ft. Walton Beach High School in 1980, she attended OWJC for 2 years. In 1983, while attending PJC, Janet graduated from the dental assisting program. Janet was employed by Dr. James Nabors D.D.S. in Ft. Walton Beach for 18 years. Since childhood she always had a deep passion for animals. In addition to volunteering at local pet shelters, Janet worked at Parkway Veterinary Hospital. She started her own pet-sitting business in 1999 until September 25, 2016 when she was diagnosed with Leukemia. She had previously been treated for breast cancer in 2013. 

Janet was born into an Air Force family, growing up in Delaware, Japan, South Dakota, and Florida. She was a kind and loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Janet deeply cared for her family, friends, and her pet-sitting clients/their beloved pets. She will be greatly missed by all.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017, 7-9 pm at Crosspoint United Methodist Church Community Life Center; 214 Partin Drive South, Niceville, FL. Please come share a memory of Janet and/or bring a photo of your pet(s) to place on her memory board. 

The family would like to thank Janet’s friends and clients for all their thoughts and prayers during the last 6 months.  They would also like to thank Dr. Mose Hayes and staff; the doctors, nurses, and staff at Marimar Beach Sacred Heart Hospital; the Jacksonville Mayo Clinic Bone Marrow Transplant Center as well as their ICU for all the genuine loving care during all of Janet’s cancer treatments.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SOCKS animal shelter in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Sacred Heart Cancer Center, Cancer Care, or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
