Kathryn J. Gresko

January 6, 1943 ~ September 11, 2017 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Kathryn J. Gresko of Niceville, Florida passed away September 11,2017 after a long battle with congestive heart failure and cancer. She was born on January 6, 1943 to Ernest and Margaret Walter of Lake View, Iowa. Kathy graduated from the University of Iowa, where she was honored to play bagpipes for Queen Elizabeth of England with the Scottish Highlanders, a select group from the Iowa University Band. She received her Master’s Degree from Boston College. Kathy began her career teaching music, progressing to Counselor and Registrar for Troy State University, Florida Region.  She sang in the Northwest Florida Chorus and Schola Cantorum, and she was an active member of the North Florida Symphony Guild.  Kathy was one of the Founders of the Saint Paul Lutheran Church of Niceville and sang in the choir.  She was a member of the Valparaiso Garden Club and a Master Gardener.  As an advocate for and a member of Relay for Life through Survivor & Friends, Kathy was an inspiration and a wellspring of strength for those fighting cancer.  With her vibrant smile and a glass of wine, her famous “Happy, Happy, Happy” refrain is wisdom for us all.  A special thank you to all our neighbors and friends for their help and support. Thank you to all the home care nurses and Twin Cities Hospital doctors, nurses, and staff for their excellent help and care.  May we all find comfort that Kathy found happiness in playing piano and singing for family and friends.  She will be truly missed by all.  A celebration of life and interment will be held at a later date.
