John B Arnold, Jr

John B. Arnold, Jr was born in Glasgow, Scotland to Doctor John B. and Elfriede Arnold. He grew up in New Orleans since the age of four. After graduating from Tulane University, he served as a Naval officer for four years. He started to work with Civil Service at Eglin AFB in April of 1962 as an electrical engineer and retired in1995.

John served four years as a commissioner before being elected Mayor of Valparaiso where he served for 53 years until his passing. He dearly loved the city and the people and devoted his life serving them with unwavering integrity and honesty that guided every decision. He was a loyal, trustworthy friend with convictions to always do the right thing. His legacy will be the unforgettable impact he made on the many lives he touched. His memory will be forever cherished by those fortunate enough to know him and he will be greatly missed.

John leaves behind his wife, Marlene; daughter, Suzanne Arnold; son, John B. Arnold, III; grandchildren, Ashley and Kathleen; sister, Marlene Martin; nephew, Carl; nieces, Kathy and Debbie; four step children; Ron Gierlinski, Kathy Lynch, Mike Gierlinski and Jim (Lisa) Gierlinski; and step grandchildren, Kelsi, Caitlin, Natalee, Audra, and Briana (Andy).

Everyone is invited to join the celebration of his life on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Niceville, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the city of Valparaiso for Doolittle Park Renovation Fund.
